I am a figurative painter and work with my lived experiences in Seoul, Toronto, Chicago and New York. I received a BFA from School of Art Institute of Chicago in 2011 and an MFA from Pratt Institute in 2017.
I create art to express my emotions about my everyday encounters with the beauty of nature, my doubts, my pleasant and unpleasant feelings, and remembrances of places and people. A starting point of my work, besides memory, is having a child-like attitude wherein I allow myself to improvise and let go of all rules and calculations. So I prefer to mix non-conventional way of painting to portray the idea of memory. "Phantasm" is always an inspirational element and a driving force in my world of art. It is what I seek through work to visually express the relationship of beauty by linking a dreamy atmosphere with a positive sense of solitude.
